NLP?

NLP? 

I am regularly asked: ‘What exactly is NLP?’ It doesn’t surprise me as the term ‘NLP’ doesn’t give much away, does it? When you then go on to define the acronym as Neuro Linguistic Programming it get’s even worse. What is that meant to mean? You may well ask, and people frequently do.

I am going  to tell you what NLP means to me and why I believe that it is an invaluable, effective, quick and highly enjoyable method to gain more of what you want in your life and less of what you don’t.

We all operate certain programmes and patterns in our neurology (brain) which have been initiated, filtered and developed and perform according to the various input (experiences, data, etc.) that our neurology has absorbed during the course of our lives. These patterns or programmes run at an unconscious level, many we are not even aware of, and produce a certain behaviour - in the same way as a computer programme will generate a certain formula or outcome.

Some of these patterns are positive and help us to achieve what we want in our lives and allow us to move forward and grow. Others hold us back, keep us stuck, prevent us from moving forward and achieving what we really desire in our lives. Sometimes this is because they are just outdated or dysfunctional, not serving any positive purpose any more. Sometimes it is because the patterns are held in place by negative emotions such as anger, hurt, sadness or guilt derived from past experiences and limiting decisions. These negative emotions bind themselves tightly to our thoughts, perceptions and judgements like calcium collects and hardens in a water pipe, restricting freedom and flow producing limited behaviour and reduced effectiveness. 

When our computer gets full up with programmes it no longer needs to work efficiently, it starts to play up, slow down, shut down, give up. We then run a special diagnostic disc to clean it up, get rid of all the rubbish it doesn’t need, freeing up memory and space for what we do need and want. Well, NLP is a bit like running a diagnostic disc in your brain and the effects are astounding. 

Remove the road blocks, the self maintained diversions and the dead ends, change the oil and fill up your tank and free up the space to create, embrace and live the life you want.

BALANCE


Well this is very exciting moment for me as I have just completed designing my first website and started my first 'Blog'. Such a strange name for a piece of writing, makes me wonder if somebody coined the phrase whilst 'sitting' on something similar….'spending a penny' for their thoughts perhaps? Any way, my plan is to capture and pin down a few of my own thoughts and share them with whoever is interested in tapping into my site.

I had a client today who arrived in a complete fluster, 'everything' seemed to have gone wrong in her world and her skin had been caught up in the chaos. Flare ups, dryness, redness, you name it, she was experiencing it. As we talked and she soaked her feet in the warm sage foot-bath I had prepared, I noticed her visibly relaxing as her breathing started to slow. As we talked some more we moved from 'everything' in her world teetering on the brink of disaster to salvaging at least 40% of her world which we reframed as being 'actually pretty good'. As she shut her eyes and surrendered herself to the Dr.Hauscka lightness of touch and being  she murmured that another 20% was probably redeemable. On completion of the treatment I gave her a task. She was to imagine one word, engraved on everything she could see, hear, taste, smell or feel: BALANCE.

When we loose balance the first thing to go is perspective. When we loose perspective we start to spiral downwards out of our own control zone. We  encounter road blocks, diversions and dead ends as our natural flow of energy becomes blocked. We feel that we are no longer in control and slip onto the effect side of the equation of life, putting the cause outside ourselves wearily handing  over our personal power to some unknown person, factor, circumstance or fate. 

To much, too little or not enough food, drink, love, work, sex, play, holidays, money, family, exercise, relaxation or sleep will sooner or later show up somewhere in our lives as 'congestion' on an emotional, physical, mental or spiritual level. Like my client who came to me with inflamed and congested skin; a confirmation not a coincidence that her internal state was being reflected on a physical level.

Balance as defined in the dictionary is 'an even distribution of weight enabling someone or something to remain upright and steady.' In other words, without it, we fall, we go off course; we are uncertain and lose perspective and wholeness.

Watch how an acrobat walks the tightrope, how he or she will constantly correct, focus and adjust their weight distribution to ensure they can maintain their balance as they walk what may seem like the impossible distance. And it looks so easy. 

That is because balance promotes ease and imbalance results in dis-ease.
